English
This term, we will be using the following quality texts to support our writing:

- Planning, drafting, writing, editing, evaluating and proof-reading our work.

Reading 
In Summer 1, the theme for our books is 'The Great Fire of London'. We will be focussing on the following quality texts:

Maths 
In Summer 1, we will be focusing on Measurement (Mass, Capacity and Temperature) and Fractions. We will learn to:

Mass, Capacity and Temperature
- Compare mass, volume and capacity.
- Measure in grams (g) and kilograms (kg).
- Measure in millimetres (ml) and litres (l).
- Solve problems involving mass, volume and capacity.
- Measure and record temperature.

Fractions
- Equal and unequal parts.
- Recognise and find a half.
- Recognise and find a quarter.
- Recognise and find a third.
- Unit fractions and non-unit fractions.
- Recognise the equivalence of a half and two quarters.
- Recgonise and find three-quarters.
- Count in fractions up to a whole.

 

In Summer 2, we will be focusing on Time, Statistics and Geometry (Position and Direction). We will learn to:

Time
- Tell the time to o'clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to.
- Tell the time past and to the hour.
- Tell the time to 5 minutes.
- Know how many minutes in an hour and how many hours in a day.


Statistics

- Tally charts, tables and block diagrams.
- Draw and interperet pictograms in scales of 1, 2, 5 and 10.


Geometry (Position and Direction)
- Use and understand the language of position.
- Describe movement and turns.
- Shape patterns with turns.

Please find below a copy of the Year 2 thematic knowledge organiser for Summer Term 1 and Summer Term 2. Here you will find further information regarding what the children will be learning in each subject this half term. It will also provide you with some helpful pieces of information to support your home learning/home work.

 

PE
PE is on a Wednesday and Thursday. Please remember to send your child to school wearing their PE kit on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Please also remember, that in line with school policy, earrings must be removed or covered with plasters. Thank you.

SWIMMING - Children in Year 2 will be having a 30 minute daily swimming lesson at school from 24th April - 5th May 2023. This will be provided by 'Pools to Schools'. Please ensure children bring a bag with their swimming oufit (girls; a one-piece costume and boys; swim trunks or shorts that are above their knees) and a towel. All items must be named. All children will be reqiured to wear a swim hat, which school will provide. Goggles, earrings, bikinis and armbands are not allowed.

 

Homework
Homework will be sent out each Friday and is to be returned by Thursday the following week. Homework will vary each week, but will include maths, spelling, reading and writing or topic based learning.

Your child will be expected to read each night and for this to be recorded in their reading response book. A member of the Year 2 team will check this on a daily basis.

 

Trips
Petty Pool Outdoor Educational Centre (day visit) - Friday 9th June 2023
