Spring - Creative Curriculum

In the first half of Spring term, our reading takes us towards the Victorians. We walk in the shoes of Victorian children, empathising with their experiences of working in cotton mills. As a class, we consider why families would move to factory towns, when conditions were so awful. Using our understanding of Victorian creations and our Scientific knowledge of properties of materials, we will be inspired to create a frame structure.

In the second half of Spring term, we speed forward to present day. Exploring current environmental issues, in particular the problem with plastic, we think about the effect it has on our oceans. We consider the part that we play, as global citizens, and make conscious changes. Year 5 reuse plastic materials to create their own spectacular 3D sculptures. To further develop our understanding of the world, we learn about the life cycles of a variety of living things.
