Summer - Creative Curriculum

Summer is here! It seems only fitting to take a trip to a warmer climate - South America, to travel around the rivers, mountains, lakes and learn more about tectonic plates.  Year 5 will be travelling back in time to the Mayan period in South America. Building upon our understanding of ancient civilisations from previous years, we will explore how the Mayans adapted their land to survive. As a class, we will research into famous artists from this continent and create collages inspired by them. Through delving into the life of Frieda Kahlo, we will learn about the things that she fought for and her activism.

During the final half of Summer term, we will further develop our understanding of activism, human rights and the rights of a child. The Mayans will be explored in more depth and we will even create our own seasonal dishes inspired by this ancient culture. Year 5 will also become chemists and conduct a number of experiments that test the properties of solids, liquids and gases.
