PSHE at Over Hall Community School
The Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) lead at Over Hall Community School is Mrs Ackerley.

PSHE is a school subject through which pupils develop the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to manage their lives, now and in the future. It helps children and young people to stay healthy and safe, while preparing them to make the most of life and work.
Intent
At Over Hall Community School we believe that a strong PSHE education is important to help our pupils develop into well-rounded members of society, who can make a positive contribution to their community. Our PSHE curriculum is strongly tied to our RSE, relationships, health education and pastoral care programme.
At Over Hall our aim is that children and young people acquire the knowledge, understanding and skills they need to manage their lives, now and in the future
Implementation
The PSHE curriculum will be taught within the themes:

PSHE will be taught using the 1Decision scheme of work which is based on National Curriculum expectations and covers all the statutory content required to successfully deliver Health and Relationships Education.
1Decision support the delivery of the curriculum through appropriate and progressive activities, covering the following topics:
Families and people who care for me
Caring friendships
Respectful relationships
Online relationships
Being safe
Mental wellbeing
Internet safety and harms
Physical health and fitness
Healthy eating
Drugs, alcohol and tobacco
Health and prevention
Basic first aid
Changing adolescent body
Economic wellbeing and being a responsible citizen
Alongside 1Decision, PSHE curriculum content is delivered through theme days, visits from external agencies e.g. Police, NSPCC, and other assemblies.
At Over Hall we also follow the No Outsiders programme, which through the use of stories develops pupil’s knowledge and understanding of equality and diversity within the world they live in.
We also recognise as part of our preparing children for life beyond school, the need to raise their awareness and aspirations about future careers and career pathways, this is done through the Aspirations programme.
British Values and Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural (SMSC) topics will also be covered as part of PSHE.
Sex and Relationship Education
At Over Hall we chose to teach SRE. The aim of SRE is to provide children with age appropriate information, explore attitudes and values and develop skills in order to empower them to make positive decisions about their health related behaviour. As a school we use the Christopher Winter Programme to teach children from Year 1 to 6 about Sex and Relationships. (Further information available on SRE page)
Leadership - as a result of effective leadership staff receive training and support ensuring they have the knowledge, expertise and skills to effectively implement PSHE within their cohort. Visits and specialists within the subject are hugely influential in the delivery of the curriculum.
Equal opportunities – All children are given sufficient time to access the PSHE curriculum.
Planning - The long-term plan is designed to enable children to build upon their knowledge and skills whilst encompassing effective understanding of PSHE study. Building awareness and opportunities through the exploration of a variety of activities and experiences and learning opportunities and chance to discuss the topics covered and how relate to them.
Assessment - Subject Leaders monitor the progress of PSHE through work scrutiny, learning walks, pupil voice, work displayed etc. Next steps for the subject then become evident.
Impact:
Through our teaching and learning of PSHE, pupils have a positive view of the subject and are able to enthusiastically communicate their knowledge the important areas that are covered within PSHE. Pupils will feel confident in their ability to accept, value and support others, treat everyone with equality and respect and take this knowledge with them beyond the school gates.

RELATIONSHIPS AND HEALTH EDUCATION
The Government have brought in a new curriculum that must be taught in Primary Schools to deliver Relationships and Health Education. This will be delivered at Over Hall Community School using the 1Decision programme.
