Parents

Parent View

Parent View gives you, the parents/carers, the chance to tell Ofsted what you think about our school, from the quality of teaching to dealing with bullying and poor behaviour. The survey can be completed at any time; you don’t have to wait until the school is being inspected.

Ofsted will use the information you provide when making decisions about which schools to inspect and when.

Click the Parent View Logo above to take you directly to the site to register and complete a survey to help your child’s school improve.

Alternatively, speak to staff within school.

Also, at our termly Parent Consultation or Open days we offer the opportunity for parents / carers to share their views. Please see below for the most recent results. Prior to the most recent survey we conducted one upon Remote learning and before that upon Relationships, both of which helped to inform our planning and procedures.

Parent View - Spring 2021

Comments from parents/carers…

The staff are more friendly than my children’s previous school, you are met every morning and after school with a warm welcome. (Key Stage 2 parent of two)

The staff are approachable at Over Hall. I love that about the school as my children went to another school before. Over Hall is a much better school. (Parent of two in Key Stage one and Two)

My child struggles with change and anything to do with working with others and Over Hall teachers have helped so much. I can’t thank Mrs Hopley and Mrs Williams for their support. I used to go to this school when I was younger and its lovely to see my children grow up here. (Key Stage 2 parent)

This is 3rd primary we have attended and I must say Over Hall is by far the best and I’m hoping my youngest child gets a place there this year. (Key Stage 2 parent)

I just want to say a huge thank you to Mrs Schuettke (I don't think I will ever know how to spell it though) who seemed to take the time to get to know my child, understand him and support him whenever he has needed it. I believe she will always be a teacher that he remembers for the rest of his life and he has the utmost respect for her because of this and I am so grateful to her. (Key Stage 2 parent)

Since Covid, Over Hall have been amazing. (Key Stage 2 Parent)

Both my sons attend Over Hall, and I am so glad they do. The staff are exceptional and always go above and beyond for the children and in supporting their families also. It’s so nice walking in to the playground in the morning and having the head greet both the children and their guardians. It's just these little touches really make a difference. If I have had any concerns over any of my children the teachers have always had time to deal with my concerns and come up with ideas and fresh approaches in dealing with these concerns and I have always found the staff to be really helpful, and friendly and have never felt judged as a parent going through difficult times. And my children both feel happy and safe here. Our school and all the staff really are the pride of our community. (Parent of two children in Key Stage One and Two)

Many thanks to our parents / carers who attended (via phonecall) our Spring Consultation and gave some time to complete our parental survey. We hope you found the time useful and as a result have a clear understanding of your child’s current attainment, progress and attendance alongside any support offered in school or likewise that can be offered at home.

In our questionnaire we were interested to hear about your views upon school so that we can ensure we are doing our very best for your child. Thank you to the 28 families with one or more children, representing approximately 41 children (21% of children who attend),  who took the time to complete the online questionnaire.

57% of the responses were by families with only one child, the remaining 43% had two or more children at school.

My child / children are happy at Over Hall -  93% of our parents who completed the questionnaire agreed. 68% of parents strongly agreed! We are delighted they are happy and thank you for choosing Over Hall. 7% disagreed with this statement. Staff are always happy and will find the time to support families in finding a resolution to any identified problems. Please do not hesitate in getting in touch via telephone or Class Dojo as the earlier we identify and communicate the problem the earlier we solve it - we can only do this together.

My child/children feel safe at Over Hall - 96% of parents/carers stated that they believe their child feels safe - 68% strongly agreed. Staff work hard to put strategies, procedures and of course policy in place for the safety of our community. Children have a number of staff and strategies to communicate concerns. We are always looking for more, please share your ideas!

Over Hall makes sure pupils are well behaved - 96% of parents/carers agreed with this statement; 57% strongly agreed. Our school values play an enormous part of the behaviour and attitudes. We are proud of our children's behaviour both in school but also while we are out and about - when we can get out and about! There are always numerous, positive comments about our team's fabulous conduct. Well done team!

Over Hall has a strong focus upon ensuring bullying is dealt with appropriately and children are given appropriate support - 93% in total agreed or strongly agreed; 39% strongly agreed. 7% disagreed. Despite this small percentage this is an area we want to focus further upon, ensuring we have a common definition of bullying and that parents and children feel that the issue is resolved quickly and appropriately. We will be introducing a termly focus upon what we believe to be ‘bullying’ to ensure that it is easily identified and reported.

Bullying at Over Hall - Some parents/carers indicated that at some point they believed their child had been bullied - 80% of these parents/carers believed that it was dealt with quickly and effectively. However, 63% of parents / carers  indicated that their child has not been bullied while at Over Hall. It is always positive to hear that the vast majority of children do not experience bullying however, it is always terrible to hear those that do. As a result, we will continue to work upon this as a school in ensuring that if it happens it is reported and resolved quickly and effectively.

Staff at Over Hall make me aware of what my child will learn during the year - 89% of parents agreed that Over Hall makes them aware; 61% strongly agreed. 11% disagreed with this statement. As a school learning is communicated in a number of ways: via the class pages on the school website and this is updated weekly; via Class Dojo, activities are posted; Knowledge Organisers are shared in paper or digitally. We are always keen to share this as it is important for parents to have an idea of what is happening in school, as often at the end of the day, the children do not share!

Staff at Over Hall deal with concerns raised - 93% agreed that school deal with any concerns raised; 57% strongly agreed. 4% disagreed and 4% strongly disagreed. 37% of those answering have not raised a concern. 82% of parents who had raised a concern felt that it was dealt with swiftly; 18% felt that their concern was not dealt with. If you as a parent or carer have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate in getting in contact with the Class Teacher, member of staff within the class, Key Stage lead or Senior Leader as soon as possible to avoid unnecessary upset and to ensure a resolution. If we don’t know, we can’t help.

The school has high expectations for my child - 89% of parents/ carers stated that Over Hall has high expectations for their child; 50% strongly agreed. 11% disagreed. We believe each and every one of our pupils has the ability to achieve their dreams and we encourage them to 'dream big'!

When questioned about Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND), 85% indicated their child/children have not been identified as SEN. 50% of parents /carers who indicated their child as SEN stated they believe that Over Hall provides the support they need in order to succeed. If you are unsure if your child has special educational needs, please speak to the class teacher or alternatively Mrs Ackerley who leads upon this area.

89% of parents/carers agreed that Over Hall provides information regarding how their child is doing. 57% strongly agreed and 11% disagreed. Parents/Carers are invited to a termly parent consultation where attainment, progress alongside attendance are discussed. An annual report is shared in the summer term and Class Teachers are always at the end of a phone call or Class Dojo message.

WOW! 100% of parents/carers agreed that there is a good range of subjects on offer at Over Hall. 64% strongly agreed – thank you for the acknowledgement of all the hard work that goes on within school. Staff are constantly working hard to ensure thorough coverage of the curriculum alongside making it as interesting and engaging as possible. We want the children to learn and enjoy their time at primary school.

93% of parents/carers agreed that their child can take part in a range of clubs and activities at Over Hall. 61% strongly agreed and 7% disagreed. Before (and we will work hard after) the pandemic, there was a great range of activities on offer. We look forward to offering a good range again in the near future.

89% of parents/carers believe that Over Hall supports their child's wider personal development. 57% strongly agreed and 11% disagreed. As a team, we believe that Over Hall offer a wide range of activities to support mental health and wellbeing alongside life skills and aspirations – maybe we need to celebrate these more to show what we offer. Alongside this, we are always happy to explore new and creative ideas to widen experiences – please share!

86% of the parents / carers answering the questionnaire agreed that their child does well at Over Hall. 68% strongly agreed. We strive to provide the very best we can and will continue to do so. Using your constructive comments we will explore how we can improve even further.

And finally,

89% of parents/ carers answering the questionnaire would recommend Over Hall to another parent /carer. That's always a fabulous compliment and there is nothing better than this type of advertisement! For those of the parents who would not recommend, I urge you to come to school and discuss your concerns.

Suggestions to improve …

Help & support with medical problems (Key Stage 1 parent) In response to this I would like to say that staff work hard to meet the wide range of needs within school, constantly looking at innovative but importantly effective ways of supporting children in their development. In saying that we don't always get it right straight away but are willing to work with all involved to provide the very best.

They need more teachers to identify children need support; dinner time is all over the place in order to take them for lunch and sometimes not much time left for my child to eat a full meal. (Key Stage 2 parent) Staff are constantly looking at improving and lunchtime is a focus of us all and even more difficult during the pandemic. We will look at the time given to children to eat their lunch and ensure that it continues to be smooth running. This is worth exploring with the children themselves.

Only improvement I would recommend is if a child has been naughty or anything that a teacher rings them instead of speaking after school or sends a message to say come few minutes after once not many parents around to hear. (Key Stage 2 parent) I totally agree with this statement, as there is nothing worse than being approached in front of others. It is important the relationship between home and school remains positive - a quiet phone call is promoted amongst staff and we shall review this often.

Thank you for your thought provoking comments – we will continue to explore.
